
The study will take place in the Tuamotu and Gambier Islands where the waters around several islands will be surveyed. The islands comprising the Biosphere of Fakarava will have the greatest priority and The Moorings is providing a Moorings 4600 catamaran, which will serve as their base of operations during a 2-week period of the team’s research initiative.
Tahiti Tourism of North America has said, “Fakarava has been designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve for the preservation of rare species. This designates this atoll, and six surrounding atolls, as a recognized area where local communities are actively involved in governance and management, research, education, training and monitoring - promoting both socio-economic development and biodiversity conservation.”
