Cruising in Providence waters is a delightful adventure, taking you to the nearby marine parks and the incredible snorkeling in the area and to the wonders of Mahé Island, the largest of the Seychelles. Inland are verdant mountains with intriguing hiking trails and along the coast are many wonderful bays and coves to explore, where you can swim and snorkel at world-class beaches in one of the most exotic cruising grounds on Earth. Providence is about five minutes from the airport and Victoria, the capital of the Seychelles. It’s both a fascinating and laid-back city.
No moorings are available. Boaters typically tie up at the marina in Providence.
Dinghy dockage: No dinghy dockage is available.
Renting a car or hiring a taxicab to explore Victoria is a great way to learn more about the Seychelles and to experience the delights of this unusual city. Shop, dine, and enjoy a refreshing cocktail at one of the bars. Two attractions of note in Victoria are the Botanical Gardens and the National History Museum. You can also take a tour of the island’s interior. Bicycle rentals are available for shorter sojourns. Horse backing riding on the hills and fields of the island is another option to consider, as are guided dive excursions to some of the best sites in the Seychelles (scuba diving is strictly regulated; you need to go with an organized tour). Providence is the home of the Moorings base in the Seychelles. It’s located at The Wharf Hotel & Marina on the shores of a quiet bay surrounded with woodlands near the foot of impressive mountains. The base has a restaurant, bar, and a swimming pool.
