Cruising in Airlie Beach waters takes you to the coast of Queensland to a bustling town with a resort-like ambience. Known as the Gateway to the Whitsundays, Airlie Beach is where you’ll find plenty of nightlife, fine restaurants or casual eateries, and all kinds of shops to browse through as you walk the streets to see the sights. A palm-fringed beach lines the shores of Pioneer Bay, and there’s a public swimming pool (lagoon) that’s very popular.
No moorings are available for transients. The moorings you’ll see are private. Please don’t pick one up or anchor in the mooring field. Anchor off the town or tie up at Abel Point Marina. The minimum stay in Abel Point Marina is a half day (4 hrs), which will cost AU$40 for a vessel the size of the 47 powercat.
The shops, restaurants, and bars along the main street in Airlie Beach are the primary attractions. If you’re looking for some lively nightclub action, you’ll find it at Airlie Beach! For a shore excursion consider a visit to nearby Conway National Park in a rental car. Airlie Lagoon is at the northern end of town and is great for swimming and sunbathing. Airlie Beach is a beautiful small picturesque beach. Of course, you can also arrange for dive or boat sightseeing tours of the Great Barrier Reef, as well as sightseeing flights to the reef at Airlie Airport. Every Saturday there’s an open-air market held at the waterfront. Vendors of all kinds converge to sell fresh fruits and vegetables, handicrafts, artwork, and many other items.
All facilities for yachts are available at Abel Marina.
