
The Dodecanese Islands lie off the eastern edge of the Aegean Sea adjacent to the coast of Turkey. A major yachting center, the isle of Kos is one of the largest in the group.
This Travel Notes page provides useful information about Kos. From airport procedures to currency exchange it will tell you what to expect to make your vacation smooth and worry free.

Base Facilities
Shower and toilet facilities are located opposite the Moorings dock. There is also a laundromat, mini-market and restaurant.
The Moorings has berths reserved in the Marina on Dock D.
You are allowed to spend your first and last night on board in the Marina and also if you pass by during your trip.

How to get there
Kos international airport is located on the south of the island approximately 26km from the base; the trip from airport to base lasts around 30 minutes.

Customs & Immigration
All visitors must have a valid passport or an IC for European citizens and onward ticket.
Travel formalities for EU Citizens: For the citizens of the EU, no passports are required. An ID is enough. There are no currency limit, customs formalities and vaccines required.
Travel formalities for Non EU Citizens: For the citizens from other countries of the EU, a valid passport is required and for the visitors of some third countries, a visa is obligatory. There are currency limits and customs formalities. For more information, contact your embassy
Transfers from the airport to the base are not included. However, they can be arranged through your Moorings agent.

Kos international airport is located on the south of the island.
Airport Transfers
Please add transfers to your charter contract at least 3 weeks prior to charter start date. by completing the request form and returning it to us.
Arrival/Departure Procedure
Embarkation: All charters start at 3.00 pm
Disembarkation: Return to the base at 5.00 pm. The yacht must be ready for debriefing and checks. Disembarkation is at 8.00 am the following day.
Briefing Times: Boat & Chart briefings are scheduled before at 1.30 pm. All head charterers are required to attend the briefings.
Late Arrival Procedure
The base personnel will wait for you until 9.00 pm. After 9.00 pm, you will find an information sign at our reception office with a message for you indicating your yacht's berth. Your boat will be open and indicated by a sign with your name. The boat's equipment will be ready for the night. The base personnel will be available the next day at 9.00 am.
Taxes / Depature Tax
There is currently no departure payable.
Car Rental
Major car rental agencies such as National or Alamo are available at the airport. Please contact your Moorings agent for reservations.

Post Office
A post office can be found 1 km from the base on Vasileou Pavlou Str
Monday to Friday: 7.30 am-2.30 pm. Post boxes are available in the Marina, and stamps from the Supermarket. A telecommunication centre (O.T.E.) is near the post office at 6,Virorios Street. Several telephone booths are located in the Marina. The booths work with telephone cards sold in newspaper kiosks nearby, or in the Supermarket.
Internet Connectivity
Wireless internet access is available in the marina free of charge (Marina reception provides codes). Connecting to the internet in most parts of Greece is not always possible. At the moment, Athens International Airport is offering Wi-Fi access but elsewhere, it's still hard to find.
Cellular Phones
The mobile network is well developed all over Greece. You can use your own mobile after checking with your supplier to see if Greece is included in your contract.

Banks
It is best to exchange your money when you arrive at the airport.
Banking hours: Monday - Thursday: 8.00 am-2.30 pm and Friday: 8.00 am-2.00 pm
Most banks have 24 hour cash machines. You can also find a 24 hour cash machine just down from the Kos Hotel, 300 metres from the Moorings Dock
Currencies / Money Exchange
Currency: Local currency is the Euro €.
Credit Cards:
All major Credit Cards recognized and accepted in most hotels, shops, travel and car rental agencies and restaurants.
Stickers in the front windows will advise you as to which cards are acceptable.
Travelers Checks:
Issued by all the major companies are widely recognized. You can cash your traveler's checks in all Greek and foreign banks, exchange bureaus and big hotels, but do not forget to have your passport with you as identification is necessary for the transaction.
Snorkeling or Diving
Snorkeling equipment is provided on the yacht. If you wish to exchange fins for different sizes, customer service would be delighted to help, subject to availability. Scuba diving is strictly regulated in Greece. Please arrange in advance to dive with a local club:

Marina Information
The Moorings has berths reserved in the Marina on Dock D.
You are allowed to spend your first and last night on board in the Marina and also if you pass by during your trip.
It is not possible to make a reservation for Greek ports. A passing through berth is generally available for the night. Your passage is not always recorded when passing through small ports. Port authorities will sometimes request the boat's papers and your charter contract. Do not forget to retrieve your documents before leaving. The average price for a night for a 40 footer: 7€, in small harbors / in private marina’s 40-50€.
Two (2) Sailing Licenses per boat are required.
Or one sailing license plus the Declaration of Honour (with photocopy of passport).
Electricity Information
The piers in Kos Marina are equipped with 220 V
All yachts are equipped with powerleads, a battery charger and 220V plugs.
Sailing Area Restrictions
Albania: Starting from Corfu, navigation is only permitted in Greek territorial waters. You are not permitted to approach the Albanian coast.

For those interested in history, there are many archaeological sites easy to visit on foot or by renting a bicycle.
The Castle was built between 1391 and 1395 to defend the town and its port. Open 8.30 am-3.00 pm daily except Monday.
Hippocrates Plane Tree: 2500 years old.
The Ancient City was founded in 336 B.C. Its remains were discovered in the centre of the town and around the port: Agora, the Temple of Pandemos,Aphrodite and Heracles, the ruins of a Christian basilica.
Roman or Nympheum thermal baths from the 3rd century B.C. are next to the Harbour Office.
The Xystos stadium, 4th century B.C., is decorated with marble columns and mosaics.
Hot baths were built by the Romans between the Nympheum and the Stadium.
The Odeon was discovered by the Italians in 1929.
The Casa Romana is a Roman villa restored near the Odeon (Pompeian-style) with an atrium letting light enter all the peripheral rooms.
The Asklepieion is the first medical institute founded by Hippocrates; 4 km from the base and easily reached by bicycle.
The Archaeological museum is in the town's centre-Eleftheria Place. There are numerous statues exhibited, found on different sites on the island.
Kos offers a diversity of activities for all ages. The nightlife is not to be missed.
