Interesting sites
For more of the best places to visit while on your vacation, please visit the Gocek Itinerary Page.
Kaya Koy: Approximately 20 minutes by car from Fethiye you will find the abandoned city of "Levissi" called "Kaya Koy" in Turkish. Despite an earthquake in 1856 the buildings were well preserved and some of the chapels and churches are really worth a visit: frescos, mosaics. This prospering town had approx. 2000 houses and was evacuated in 1923 when Turkey and Greece proceeded with population exchanges.
Saklikent: Situated in the Féthiye region the canyon of Saklikent is a good choice. This canyon is hundreds of metres deep and about 20km long. Parts of it are flooded by a refreshing torrent that will make you forget the heat of the Anatolian summer.
Dalyan: Opposite Fethiye, after the airport of Dalaman, towards Marmaris, you will find the village of Dalyan, known for the ruins of the ancient city of Caunus. The site of Caunus has temples, baths, an acropolis, a Byzantine basilica, a market place and a roman theatre, which is very well preserved offering amazing views of the delta. You can take a small fishing boat to the ruins and the Lycian graves of the 4th century BC which are buried in the cliffs overlooking the village while admiring the landscape of the Delta River.
