Bareboat Pacific Northwest, United States of America

The protected waters of Puget Sound have long been a sailor’s paradise. More than 170 islands comprise Washington State’s San Juan County alone, and literally hundreds more are just over the border in Canada.

Itinerary

A Pacific Northwest sailing itinerary takes you from the harbor at Anacortes on Fidalgo Island westward deep into the San Juan Island group, then north, and finally east in a loose circumnavigation distinctly wilderness in character. Passing through narrow, deep-water channels between forested slopes of adjacent isles, marveling at orcas swimming off the bow, watching eagles soar as the wind fills the sails, and dropping anchor in secluded coves that haven’t changed much since George Vancouver’s crew first ventured into these waters in the late 1700s is the essence of cruising in Puget Sound (see Pacific Northwest maps). Many of the islands are uninhabited, while others offer the amenities of full-service marinas and small, historic towns with numerous opportunities to explore and dine ashore.
