This was my sixth time booking through The Moorings. It was the tenth time for my husband. The boat was beautiful and rigged correctly. The attention to detail at the marina was a big upgrade. Our luggage and groceries were carted to our boat and loaded onto it. That was a new service and we really appreciated it. The boat had plenty of supplies for us as well. The staff were ready for us on our return whereas in the past we would get to the harbor and no one would come direct us to a slip. So this trip was probably our best trip ever. Our entire group was impressed. Thank you so much!

My husband and I booked our first trip to the BVI’s and were not disappointed. I admit I had some apprehensions about who our captain would be as we would be with them for an entire week. Gilson, or ‘Gilly’ was just fantastic. He made our journey an adventure we will always remember. Gilly planned the perfect trip based on our friends recommendations as well as his own knowledge of the Islands. My husband was well invested in learning all he could about sailing and Gilly proved to be not just a great teacher, but a fellow explorer and now a friend. We will be back, but only if Gilson is our captain. We had a perfect trip full of lifetime memories.

What a fantastic holiday. We traveled from Eastern Canada to the BVIs on Jan 3, 2026. Of course winter travel in Canada is never easy, so of course we had lots of delays. We did arrive in Tortola the night before our sailing, and paid the little extra to spend the night on the boat. We had a week on the sea, and visited (and moored) in several places, including (in order): Cooper Island, Leverick Bay, Scrub Island, Jost Van Dyke, Cruz Bay (USVIs), Norman Island, and then back to Road Town in Tortola. We had a 42 foot Catamaran. The weather was great, the sailing was good (some days there is not a lot of wind in the BVIs in January), the moorings were OK, and the restaurants were all very good. Make sure to book you Boaty Buoy at exactly 7:00 AM, as they go within seconds, and a First-come, First-serve buoy is not always available. You then have to drop anchor which is not always easy in a sandy bottom bay. The Mooring’s is a fantastic place to rent your boat. Everything is well-laid out, and has everything you need, from supplies, shower facilities, bar service, a pool, and so on. I really recommend Jot Van Dyke, and no visit is complete without going to Foxy’s….a great experience, and the food was excellent. We did make the trek to Cruz Bay in the USVI’s, but we probably should not have bothered, with all of the customs clearing (too much time spent doing this while on holidays). I highly recommend sailing around the BVI’s, and there is no better place to rent your Cat than at The Moornings…!!!

Wonderful vacation. The 50′ sailing cat was comfortable and easy to manipulate throughout all the island stops. The water is beautiful; the local culture was very welcoming and the folks at The Moorings were great. It is a uniquely beautiful part of the world and one that takes most of the stress out of your life. Quick hint: From the first minute you arrive, it is Island Time. You cannot change it, you can not talk your way thru it, you just have to relax and enjoy the pace and chill.

We recently returned from a week aboard Seas The Day with Andy and Linzi. Our trip exceeded our expectations (save for the lack of wind – mother nature did not get the message)! Andy and Linzi are an amazing team. They keep a “ship shape” clean boat, serve fresh and beautifully prepared food, provided a great itinerary, and know how to joke around …. all with the utmost safety. They have a great relationship with many of the locals and made sure we explored places others may miss. In addition, they understood the best timing to explore places to avoid crowds. Linzi even went above and beyond, baking a cake for our birthday “boy”. We 100% recommend Andy and Linzi!

We hired a captain for part of our 8 day sail in the BVI’s with Sunsail. Gilson was awesome! He was a great teacher and communicated everything to our crew on all boating essentials, safety, operation of the boat, galley/water, control panel, etc. he was very thorough and when sailing explained why we were making a maneuver and what the outcome would be. He is very experienced, friendly and easy to have on board. It was great having him on board and would highly recommend him for anyone considering a charter in the BVI’s with either Moorings or Sunsail. We’ll definitely call on him in the future.

I don’t normally write reviews but this trip was one worth noting. Our family had the opportunity to sail with The Moorings and Captain Laura Bello this past week. From our first introduction she was the ultimate professional. Helping us with our gear, introducing us to the boat and what we needed to know, and more than willing to let us learn from her experience. We discussed our intended travel route and she let us know which locations were better than others. Captain Laura allowed us to be as lazy or involved as we wanted to be. She even gave us the ability to sleep in as she woke early to secure our mooring balls for the day (they fill up fast). She had the best advice and told some great stories covering her time on the water. We took her out for dinner on our last night as we felt like family. I truly believe she spearheaded our once in a lifetime experience.

We just completed our second bareboat charter with The Moorings. Just as the first, booking, check in, chart briefing and departure was seamless. The staff at Moorings base in Tortola were friendly and very accommodating. There were eight of us on a 534PC. The boat was a little older than our first charter and showed a bit of wear although mechanically the boat was fine. We did have an issue with the generator. We contacted Tech Support and amazingly they had repair crew on site within 30 minutes to make the necessary repairs. We love the BVI and the islands have so much to offer…something for everybody. We have already booked out next charter with Moorings for December 2026.

My wife first sailed in the BVI’s in the mid 70’s. As a family we have been sailing there for more than 25 years; we have sailed a good portion of the world with the Moorings. I’ve gotten old with a beat up skeleton and the wife and daughter convinced me to hire a skipper this time around. The Moorings hooked us up with Gilson Melo as the skipper, I was hesitant about him at first because of my 65+ years of sailing experience, it was hard to give up control, but within a day or two I was kicking back and enjoying myself. Gilson is fairly new to the BVI’s so we were able to pass along our years of experience and introduced him to some new hangouts/anchorages and people we have known there for years.

We’re already planning our next trip down to the Windward’s and have got to find a way to get the Moorings to let Gilson come down and skipper for us there even if we have to buy his airplane ticket. He’s not familiar with Grenada through the Grenadines but I know he’ll research the charts and heed our advise to anchorages and the various islands we care to return to.

If you are looking for someone that is skillful, passionate, professional and knowledgeable about his trade, I would highly recommend Gilson. We are looking forward to our next sailing adventure with him.

We were a family of 10 (ages 9 to 80) celebrating a big birthday. Fantastic trip on a crewed 58-foot catamaran. Captain, cook and steward made it a true vacation for all of us. Mostly we all played water sports off the boat: swimming ,snorkeling, kayaking, paddle-boarding, water-skiing, and tubing. There was little wind the week we were there, so we mostly motored from island to island. We are not sailors so that didn’t matter to us so much.

Food and drinks on board were better than the few restaurants we visited.
