Hurricane Irma Update

21ST SEPTEMBER 2017: 12:00 GMT

The recent Hurricane activity in the Caribbean has greatly affected our base operations in the British Virgin Islands and St. Martin. Most recently, we have been preparing for and monitoring Hurricane Maria, which has already caused extensive damage in several Caribbean islands and has now passed through Puerto Rico.

Thankfully, the impact of Hurricane Maria on our already distressed bases in the BVI and St. Martin was limited.  We are, however, still awaiting news from our Puerto Rico location. To our knowledge, the entire island is without power at this time making communications very challenging. Our thoughts go out to our staff and all the people of Puerto Rico. We will provide an update as soon as it becomes available.

Again, we’d like to thank our operational teams for the incredible work they are doing in very difficult conditions. Aid efforts to our teams affected will continue, with shipments of much needed supplies to the BVI and St. Martin currently in route.

If you have a scheduled charter departure in the BVI and St Martin between now and October 31st 2017, please contact our Vacation Planners at (800) 416-0820 or Sales@moorings.com for assistance with rearranging your charter. We are currently experiencing heavy call volumes, so we appreciate your patience as wait times may be longer than usual.

Our destinations the Bahamas, Belize, Grenada and St. Lucia were unaffected and continue to operate charters normally.

Click here to donate to our employee relief fund. The fund has been set up to help our team members directly affected by the recent Caribbean hurricanes, many of whom have suffered significant losses. Thank you for your support.

For those of you who would like to support wider relief efforts, The American Red Cross are taking donations. Choose Hurricane Irma as the cause you wish to donate to.

We’d like to thank our operational teams on the ground for the incredible work they are doing in very difficult conditions.

While we continue to assess the damage to our fleet and properties in the British Virgin Islands and St Martin, our first concern is the safety of our teams and customers. We continue to reach out to all of our team members and all of those reached are confirmed safe.

All of our customers have now been evacuated from Tortola and are returning home via Puerto Rico and Antigua. No customers were in St Martin.  Please note with major damage to cell phone towers and power outages communications remain difficult at this time, however the governments are now on site assisting with evacuation and relief efforts.

Our locations in Puerto Rico and Bahamas have reported all team members are safe, with minimal impact to the fleet.  Both bases will be resuming normal operations shortly.  Our locations in Grenada and St Lucia are unaffected and continue to operate charters normally.

Our Florida offices remain closed due to power outages caused by Hurricane Irma’s passage, but all of our team members are safe.  Due to precautions taken with our IT infrastructure prior to the arrival of Hurricane Irma you may experience issues with online booking over the next few days.

We have limited call capacity through 4pm EST, so we appreciate your patience as wait times may be high.

Thank you everyone for your continued support, prayers and offers to help with our recovery plans.

The damage sustained at our locations in St Martin and British Virgin Islands is extensive, but our guests are safe and we continue to reach out to all of our team members. Our locations in Puerto Rico and Bahamas have reported all team members safe and minimal impact to the fleet.  Thankfully Hurricane Jose passed to the Northeast of our bases without further impact.  However with major damage to cell phone towers and power outages communications remain difficult at this time. Our locations in Grenada and St Lucia are unaffected and continue to operate charters normally.

While we continue to assess the damage to our fleet and properties, our first concern is the safety of our teams and customers. We have closed our Florida offices as Hurricane Irma continues to move North.   Due to precautions taken with our IT infrastructure prior to the arrival of Hurricane Irma you may experience issues with online booking over the next few days.

We will have limited call capacity through Tuesday evening, so we appreciate your patience as wait times may be high.

Thank you everyone for your support, prayers and offers to help. The impact at our locations in the Caribbean is heartbreaking but our guests are safe and we continue to reach out to all of our team members. However with major damage to cell phone towers and power outages communications remain difficult at this time. We are in the process of assessing the damage to our fleet and properties, but with potential for Hurricane Jose to affect the region, our first concern is the safety of our teams and customers. We are also preparing our Bahamas and Florida locations as Hurricane Irma continues to move North. In response to your overwhelming offers of support, we are setting up a fund for our employees who have been affected and will share details shortly.

7th September 2017: 09:00

Our thoughts go out to all of those affected by Hurricane Irma. This is an unprecedented storm, and we are thankful for the planning and tremendous effort of our operations teams in multiple locations to secure our guests and team members, which is our highest priority. We have reports of extensive damage to our fleet and buildings and will be assessing the situation over the next 24 hours. We continue to monitor developments with the storm and as soon as we have more information we will make it available.
