Martinique Cruising Conditions

General Conditions
The best sailing and cruising is in the deep waters of the Inner Channel and Victoria Channel. Trade winds are usually fairly consistent out of a north easterly direction of 15 – 20 knots (17 – 23 mph). Winds over the winter (Christmas winds) tend to be stronger and can reach 30 knots (34 mph) for a few days in succession. The winds gradually move easterly through February, moving to southeast by June and decreasing to 10 – 15 knots (11 – 17 mph). September & October are the calmest period although this region generally gets good sailing wind all year around. Tidal range is minimal, being about 18 inches (45 cm) maximum and waves rarely exceed 3 – 5 feet (1 to 1.5 meters). Anchorages and buoys are available all along the coast.
