BVI Yacht Charter Reviews

The BVIs are beautiful. Your boats are well kept. They have great layouts. Your service is always friendly and prompt. This was our 4th charter and we are already planning our next one.

Mainly in the area of boat preparation. Water tanks not filled, fuel tanks not filled. The grill, designed for gas was charcoal. The pre-inspection process did not catch that the water maker was not functional.

I considered lowering the score but overall the trip was fine. The yacht even though relatively new, had issues but none we could not work around. The jib sheet, has been rerouted as it appears one of the rollers had been damaged. The re-route has literally worn a 1/2 inch gash into the deck form friction caused by bringing in the jib. It was so hard to bring in and that was odd till we figured out what was happening. We re-routed the sheet / line back to its intended route (partially) to get it off the friction point. Worked much better. If I owned the yacht I’d be irritated by the “fix”.
I personally also wondered why I ended up with this yacht with an issue when I had booked it in advance and have been sailing with Moorings since 1994. I know why but it still was irritating.
The AC controls units acted weird at times. They showed temp at 65 or so and shut down the units even though the temp was clearly above 75+ We turned off the system and tried other fixes with no impact. We finally figured out that if we set the unit to heat it would still throw out cool air and eventually we could then set it to cool and sometimes it would stick OK. Weird!
All in all, a very nice yacht – even so.
However, I was really angered by the lack of attention of ground staff. In one sense it was OK as we could have literally walked off the boat and walked out without any post briefing and they’d probably would not have noticed. I tried to be helpful and tell them of the jib issue. I told the front desk but it was very clear I was blown off. I went to the yacht as a team of clean up and check up person were boarding. I wanted to know if i needed to be their as they reviewed and I said I had an issue. I never even got a response. They walked past me onto the boat and never looked back. I was livid.
I realize its an “emotional issue” but I pad over $13K to rent this thing and have rented many times. I was shocked that no one looked me in the eye and asked did I need anything or did I have a question. With that kind of money being spent, someone needs to look us in the eye when we return and ask if all was OK, how’d it go, etc. And, yes, thank us for the rental. We got nothing and I dropped my expectations and respect for Moorings significantly. I am actually going to see if there are other companies I’d want to consider in future.
Ok I’m sensitive but I’m a business consultant with over 45 years experience (Accenture – ACN) and I notice these things – unfortunately.

Although some minor glitches we were satisfied overall with the boat and service.

I was the head charterer for a 6 person group. We all had a very good time on our 45 ft catamaran sailboat.
Most everything was as expected and we had no major issues during our week long charter.

Captain and chef were very attentive our needs. Boat in great condition. BVI was great with each island slightly different.

Generally good service. Boats are clean and for the most part, with some exceptions, well maintained.

It all started with Susan Ullrich. She is extremely knowledgeable in all facets of the trip. I have dealt with her for many years and have never had a problem. At tortolla the boat was ready and clean on time. The people at the facility were friendly and quick to help when needed. I would especially single out Rebecca and Suzette as being standouts in a group of staff that was very good.

You help me take care of all aspects of my boating charter. Your people on the phone are especially great.

It’s not easy to manage the logistics of of so many groups going in and out of the Moorings base, but the people working there make it look easy for their guests. Boats are continuously in need of maintenance and the employees at the Moorings regularly pull off minor miracles to get each group out on the water safely and comfortably. Our boat had plumbing and air conditioning issues that were fixed immediately and permanently (not a simple patch job, but really doing the job right). Everyone from the front desk to the cleaning crew and the dingy maintenance did everything necessary to make sure we had a great charter experience. Really a first class operation. Thanks.
