Our Sardinia sailing itinerary takes you to Italy’s stunningly beautiful Maddalena Archipelago National Park and Marine Reserve and the world-famous Emerald Coast, well known for its superb beaches and myriad of coves and bays.

On longer cruises you can sail northward to the island of Corsica, France, or transit the Strait of Bonifacio and head south down the northwestern side of the island of Sardinia, where it’s a little less expensive than on the Emerald Coast and much more laid-back. Typically, though, sailors focus on the exquisite cruising in the Maddalena Islands and the bays and harbors of Sardinia’s Emerald Coast, with upscale Porto Cervo and Porto Rotondo as the centerpiece.

While you are in Sardinia take the opportunity to visit these breathtaking cultural attractions:

The Gulf of Arzachena, which reaches so deeply into the mainland that it seems like a fjord, ends in a sensational lagoon that is well worth the visit

Go scuba diving or snorkeling in the exquisite turquoise waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. In order to save you from carrying extra luggage, The Moorings provides snorkeling equipment: flippers, mask and snorkel for your use. The equipment is stored in the office. If you’re a fan of history, take a trip to the Temple of Antas, an ancient Carthaginian-Roman temple

The Nuraghe Palmavera is a fascinating archaeological site containing a cluster of large limescale structures, dating back over 3,500 years. Offering you a slice of history, you can learn all about the Nuragic civilization

Sardinia also offers numerous opportunities for fishing either inland on the countless lakes and rivers, or on the coast off the rocks and jetties. You can even see the locals catching octopi and taking them home for dinner!

Some hotels in the north of the island offer trips on The Poseidon, a 14m sport fishing boat with excellent equipment, a very comfortable cabin and sundeck. Inland near to Mandra Edera Farm is Lake Omodeo with stunning scenery and coarse fishing. There is also fishing on the lakes and lagoons that surround Oristano on the west coast. In the south there is excellent fishing at Cala Carbonara where there is an abundance of marine life.

The sailing season in Sardinia runs from April-October, with the best times to visit and channel your inner sailor generally considered to be April-May and September-October.
