Cruising Grounds

Cruising Area Restrictions
Your itinerary can include destinations all along the West Coast of Florida from Tarpon Springs down to Key West and the Dry Tortugas, depending on your level of experience and time available. During your chart briefing a team member will go over recommended itinerary stops based upon your vacation wishes.

It is strictly forbidden to sail alone, we require two persons minimum on board.

Charts & Pilot Books
All the charts and pilot books you will need for the cruising area are on board the yacht. Your chart briefer will help you plan a customized itinerary to fulfill all your vacation wishes.

Sailing Licenses
Although no formal sailing licenses are required by the authorities or Sailing Florida for bareboat chartering, we strongly advise that you take any certificates on vacation with you. This may be useful should you be contacted by the Coast Guard, Customs or Port Police. If you have not already done so you will be required to fill in a Boating Resume to confirm that you have the necessary skills to charter in this region. Our Vacation Planning Team will be happy to send it to you.

Nighttime Sailing
Night Sailing (between 30 minutes before sunset and 30 minutes after sunrise) is not allowed without permission from the base manager. The decision to allow night sailing is based on your skill level and can be requested in advance. You will need to fill out a Boating resume for the base to review but we cannot guarantee approval.

Moorings Fees & Taxes
Dockage is not included in your charter, we recommend calling in advance to reserve a marina slip for the night. Overnight anchoring is allowed; however, some restrictions apply, which will be covered in your chart briefing.

Cruising Guide
Currently, we do not offer a cruising guide for Florida. We recommend Waterway Guide – an interactive cruising and boater guide featuring mile-by-mile navigation, marina and anchorage listings and more. If you would like to buy a cruising guide, we recommend “The Cruising Guide to Western Florida” by Claiborne S. Young – 7th addition.
