When is the best time to sail in Antigua?

To make the most of your Antigua yacht charter and to experience the island in all its glory, it’s important to understand when the best time to set sail in the Caribbean is. The sailing season in Antigua runs from November-April, and the wet season begins in June and ends in November.

It is worth noting that our Antigua sailing base is open between November-June which makes it ideal if you’re planning a Winter getaway or a New Year treat.

How easy is it to island hop in Antigua?

Antigua and Barbuda is a unique country, in that it comprises two main islands and several smaller islands. While you can center your itinerary around Antigua, some guests may choose to also set sail across to Barbuda. Whether you’re sailing on one of our state-of-the-art sailing catamarans or a classic monohull, navigating the waters around Antigua couldn’t be easier.

How many days in Antigua is enough?

Much like all our Caribbean charters, and destinations in the Mediterranean, Americas and Exotics, you have the freedom to choose how long you set sail. However, we think a week is the perfect amount of time to experience the magic of Antigua and uncover its hidden gems.

For seven days, enjoy unlimited freedom on the water aboard a spacious catamaran or classic monohull and experience Antigua without rushing. Whether you plot your own course or follow our suggested itinerary below, there’s no better way to experience this premier travel destination.

Will you spend your days hiking around luscious Green Bird Island, try windsurfing for the first time at Dickenson Bay, or soak up Antigua’s rich naval history at English Harbour?

Briteny and her team made our family vacation incredible. Great customer service for anything we needed. Would charter with them again for sure

Great welcome on arrival and the talk through by Jerome (boat) and Sadiq (Nav) were very informative. Jerome quickly sorted out the issues we found with the 50’ Cat we were chartering, ably supported by Brittany in the office. Ours was a one way charter up to St Martin over 10 days. The only issue that couldn’t be resolved was that our booking stipulated Wi-Fi on board, as one of our party had to do some work, but this was not provided nor could a way be found to provide it which was disappointing (not the fault of the shore crew). The trip went smoothly without issue to St Martin where Pascal saw us smoothly through the final handover. All in all a great trip

We chartered a 46′ monohull for 10 days. It was the early part of the season and the boat had a few little issues, but the Moorings team addressed everything we highlighted and made sure we were in good shape before we set off. We came back to base partway through the trip and were welcomed back and set up with power and water. Brittney and her team are all fantastic; very polite, helpful and full of great advice about places to visit.
We would definitely charter from The Moorings again!

This was our tenth charter with The Moorings—and the fifth in the Caribbean. We’ve come to rely on the professionalism and consistency of The Moorings brand, and Antigua rose to the occasion. Beyond that, the base manager Brittany helped us through a medical emergency with wisdom and grace. We’ve written a letter with more detail to the headquarters, but I wanted to highlight here as well.

We are forever grateful — looking forward to many more adventures to come!

Antigua is amazing. The Moorings base in English Harbour is in one of the most spectacularly beautiful locations anywhere. The Moorings staff were exceptionally helpful, especially Britiney and Jerome. Our boat was a 3-cabin, 40-foot (39+ ft) Leopard catamaran that was approximately 4 years old. It had been chartered many times, judging by the hours on the engines, but it was , for the most part, still in excellent condition and handled very well on our sail to Guadeloupe and Les Saintes. Boating is synonymous with small mishaps or questions of one kind or another, but we managed them with little trouble and a few phone calls back to the base. Cell coverage was surprisingly good everywhere we went, including the open water between Antigua and Guadeloupe. One tip: if you don’t have to, avoid traveling to another country on your charter: we spent many extra dollars and a great deal of lost time clearing out and in and out and in again. The process is slow and your crew must stay locked up on the boat while the captain goes ashore to do the paperwork. And sometimes the customs and immigration officials are very busy and have limited hours. The weather was superb. Good winds, plenty of sunshine, and temperatures between the low to mid seventies at night and the mid eighties during the day. Snorkeling at Pigeon Island in Guadeloupe is a unique experience. It’s like swimming in a tropical-fish aquarium. Amazing. Bring plenty of sunscreen—the kind that is reef- and coral friendly is a must. Highly recommended.
