Bareboat Charter FAQs
As some destinations require a formal license, we recommend equipping yourself with a applicable licence (for example: ASA 104, US Sailing “Bareboat Cruising Course”, NauticEd-SLC, IPC, ICC, RYA Day Skipper, or something of the same level), so you can have complete confidence across any location. Visit our Resumes/CVs and Requirements page for more information about the qualifications you may need.
The cost of a bareboat yacht charter ranges from a starting price of $1,885* in the low season, to a starting price of $24,179 in the high season, based on a 7 day charter for 2 people.
Price differs depending on a number of factors, including: Destination, duration, number of passengers, time of year, yacht type, special offers, and itinerary.
For example, bareboat charter prices start from $2,884 in Corfu, $3,284 in the BVI, and $5,579 in The Exumas, based on a 7 day charter for 2 people, while a 14 day bareboat charter in The Exumas starts from $9,058.
*Please note that all pricing is subject to change and is based on information available at the time of publication. This was last updated in April 2026. Learn more about average bareboat charter prices in our guide to yacht charter costs.
While we provide many charter inclusions as part of the initial bareboat sailing vacation price, you will still need to factor in an additional 25-50% of the charter cost to account for living and operational costs during your sailing vacation.
Regardless of which of our 20+ worldwide destinations you book, you should budget for flights, airport transfers, taxes and customs fees, provisioning, fuel, mooring and marina fees, travel insurance, Yacht Damage Waiver, excursions, and any charter extras.
You can find out more about how much you need to factor in for these additional elements in our guide to yacht charter costs.
The cost of completing a US Sailing ‘Bareboat Cruising’ and ASA ‘104 Bareboat Cruising’ course and certification, usually starts from around $1,100 per qualification. However, this is dependent on several factors, including course location, company, length and whether you have any previous qualifications.
For experienced sailors simply needing a qualification, NauticEd’s SLC online courses typically cost around $175, as well as a $95 licence issue fee. You will also need to pay for an in-person on-the-water evaluation (typically, one day is sufficient).
Different sailing grounds also have their own unique requirements, so you may need to gain further qualifications or experience, depending on which of our bases you book.

There will be plenty of opportunities to stock up on provisions across your charter if you factor the nearby towns and cities into your itinerary.
That said, we do recommend shopping for the majority of your food and supplies at the beginning of your charter (especially if you’re traveling with children, or your party has unique needs). All of our bases are near shops, so think beforehand about how much you need and about non-perishable foodstuffs you can keep onboard.
Before you set sail, we offer a completely comprehensive briefing so you can start your charter with confidence. This covers everything from an introduction to the local cruising grounds, to a full boat orientation so you understand your yacht inside and out, to a health and safety briefing that covers the emergency systems.
