Power Yacht Charter FAQs

What are the benefits of a Power Catamaran Yacht?

If you’re looking for an unforgettable sailing vacation in any of our sailing destinations, book a Power boat rental.

You might be wondering, what are the benefits of setting sail aboard a state-of-the-art Power catamaran?

  • Power – The clue is in the name when it comes to our iconic Power yacht fleet. Our Power catamarans are equipped with not one but two engines to ensure power and reliability as you glide across the waves. Our 403 PC and 464 PC engines are 320 HP, while our 534 PC is 350 HP.
  • Speed – The reason our customers love these exquisite Power yachts is because of their speed. You can fit so much more into your charter itineraries with a Power yacht, meaning more time exploring uninhabited islands, more trips to golden beaches and more time to sit back with a cocktail and relax.
  • Comfort – Like our sailing catamarans and monohulls, our Power yachts have been designed with maximum comfort in mind to make sure you have the most relaxing, peaceful sailing vacation possible. From increased floor space and privacy blinds to air conditioning, you will feel your cares melt away the second you step on board.

Difference between a Sailing and Power yacht charter?

Whether you’ve been sailing with The Moorings for years or are joining us for the first time, you might be wondering about the differences between our sailing and power charters:

  • Sailing Charters– If you’re looking for the classic, quintessential sailing experience, book a sailing charter aboard one of our catamarans or monohulls. Relying on wind as opposed to a motor, they offer the ultimate adventure and chance to hone your navigation skills. Quiet and eco-friendly, sailing charters take a slower pace of life, giving you time to admire the incredible natural beauty of nearby islands.
  • Power Boat Charters – Innovative, technologically-advanced and powered by two engines, power yacht charters take boating to a whole new level. Ideal for those with a jam-packed itinerary wanting to island hop, power charters are faster and more convenient as they don’t rely on the wind. Our Power yachts also tend to have more space for socializing and relaxing, making them the ideal option for larger groups.

How much does it cost to sail a Power yacht?

The cost for a power yacht charter starts from $2,230* in the low season, and $15,499 in the high season, based on a 7 day charter for 2 people. Prices will differ depending on a number of factors, including: Destination, duration, party size, time of year, special offers and itinerary.

For example, power charter prices start from $6,054 in the BVI, $2,315 in Agana, and $9,249 in St Martin, based on a 7 day charter for 2 people, while a 14 day power sailing vacation starts from $12,105 in the BVI, $4,990 in Agana, and $20,999 in St Martin.

How much does it cost to get a power licence for my power charter?

The cost of completing a US PowerBoating Association “Inshore Powerboat Cruising” course and certification typically costs between $1,200-$1,800. Many people complete the course as part of a package, which also includes Basic Powerboat Cruising and Night Operations courses, typically ranging in price from around $2,800-$3,500.

For experienced sailors simply needing a qualification, NauticEd’s SLC online courses typically cost around $175, as well as a $95 licence issue fee. You will also need to pay for an in-person on-the-water evaluation (typically, one day is sufficient).

However, costs are dependent on several factors, including including course location, company, length and whether you have any previous qualifications. There are also other qualifications you can complete for your power charter, which you can learn more about on our sailing qualifications and requirements page.

What additional costs do I need to factor in for a power yacht charter?

Additional costs include flights, airport transfers, taxes and customs fees, provisioning, fuel, mooring and marina fees, travel insurance, Yacht Damage Waiver, excursions, and any charter extras. To account for living and operational costs, you’ll usually need to factor an additional 25-50% of your initial power charter price into your overall budget.

You can find out more about how much you need to factor in for these additional elements in our guide to yacht charter costs.
