Bareboat charters typically start from $4,199, and crewed charters from $37,999, but can depend on several factors, including which base you choose, yacht type, charter type, party size, duration, and additional expenses such as flights, mooring fees, fuel, and provisioning.

Tahiti’s high season falls from May to October, during the dry season; while the costs are typically higher during this time, it’s also when the weather is balmiest, the water is clearest, and the sailing events are in full swing. Sailing off-peak may offer lower costs, however, it also brings more unpredictable weather and rainfall, which can impact your charter experience.

Additional Tahiti yacht charter costs you need to factor in

As you prepare for your Tahiti sailing vacation, there are several living and operational costs you’ll need to factor into your budget. On average, allowing for an additional 25-50% of the initial charter price will cover these additional costs, although this can be more or less depending on whether all of the added costs apply to you.

Flights and airport transfers

On average, round-trip flights from the US to Raiatea Airport cost between $800 and $1,300, depending on where you’re flying from, how far in advance you book, whether you’re flying during the peak season, and the type of ticket. 

The cost of an airport transfer will depend on whether you choose a shared or private taxi (which you can book in advance). Shared taxis to our base in Raiatea, Tahiti tend to cost between $14-18 USD, while private taxis fall between $20-25.

Local taxes and mooring fees

Mooring fees in Tahiti typically cost $1-2 per foot for monohulls, and $2-3 per foot for catamarans. 

But there are some exceptions, including:

1. Restaurants or pearl farms that will offer free moorings to customers as long as you use their services.
2. Bora Bora, where anchorage is prohibited. You can expect to pay around 4000 XPF (approx. $40) to stop there.
   
   Cruising taxes are included in the price of your yacht charter package. 

Provisioning

As a general rule, you should aim to allocate between $50-75 per person per day for provisioning, which will ensure everyone has plenty of meals, snacks, and drinks. 

However, if you’re foodies who want to spend your vacation feasting on traditional Polynesian dishes, plenty of fresh seafood, tropical fruit, and rum punches, then you may choose to allocate a little more each day.

Please note that if you add a skipper to your charter, you must pre-pay on the booking for the skipper’s provisioning.

Fuel

When you charter a sailing yacht in Tahiti with The Moorings, we start you off on your trip with a full tank of fuel, and you’re not required to refuel before coming back to base. 

Gratuity

A gratuity is expected and is typically given to the skipper or crew at the end of the charter. The amount is entirely at your discretion.

For crewed charters, if you’re happy with the outstanding quality of service during your all-inclusive sailing vacation, a gratuity of 15-20% of the overall charter price is suggested.
