The Benefits of a Weekday Charter Start in the BVI

Did you know it is possible to begin and end your charter on any day of the week in the British Virgin Islands? Naturally, most guests choose to begin their vacations on a weekend, but there are numerous benefits to taking advantage of a weekday arrival to begin your next journey through the islands.

A Smooth Arrival

One benefit of arriving in the BVI during the week is a calmer travel day. There are fewer flights arriving during the week, and every step in your journey tends to be easier as a result – from breezing through Customs, finding a taxi, and usually being first in line to check in upon arriving at The Moorings Yacht Club. The whole experience feels like a breeze.

Flight Savings

With airlines’ flexible pricing structure, peak travel days like Saturday and Sunday are often more expensive than flights during the week. Guests can save up to 35% on average when flying on a Tuesday vs. a Saturday, for example. That savings can then be spent on more important things, like the next round of Painkillers or a lobster dinner in Anegada.

VIP Treatment

The Moorings is the largest charter operator in the Virgin Islands by a wide margin, and on certain peak dates it is not uncommon to have close to 100 charters beginning in a 24-hour span. We do our best to provide personalized service to all guests, but it is inevitable that this can lead to some longer waits. On mid-week starts, however, you could be one of only a handful of charter starts that day, meaning our entire crew is on hand to accommodate your every need and help expedite your departure.

Trailing Behind

The most common charter itinerary in the British Virgin Islands often follows a similar pattern: setting sail from Tortola, most guests’ first stop is a choice of Norman Island, Cooper Island, or a longer jaunt straight to Virgin Gorda. From there, one begins island-hopping counterclockwise around Tortola, hitting as many stops as possible along the way. If you are among the weekend-start crowd, you may find yourself traveling along with that group throughout your week. Whereas if you begin a few days later, the crowd will have passed on to the islands later in your journey, and each stop along the way will feel just a little calmer, a little less rushed, and you will have less stress about finding a mooring ball at the end of the day.
