Dino & Ana

Dino Zaklan

Captain/Skipper

Captain Dino has always been passionate about the sea, growing up in Split, Croatia. After graduating from the Faculty of Maritime Sciences in Split, he quickly began sailing and building his career. From skippering bareboat yachts to becoming a flotilla lead skipper and eventually a captain on crewed yachts, Dino’s greatest achievement in the past 13 years is maintaining his love for the job. Specializing in sharing the local history, traditions, unique cuisine, and the Dalmatian way of life, his knowledge, experience, patience, and calm demeanour create a relaxed atmosphere that ensures guests make the most of their holiday. In his free time, Dino enjoys hiking and long bicycle rides, and as a passionate amateur historian, he loves sharing fascinating stories about his homeland.

“Hi, I’m Dino. I’ve been a captain with The Moorings for the past year, but my journey at sea started long before that. With over eight years of experience sailing charter vessels throughout nearly every corner of the Mediterranean, I’ve come to know these waters—and their stories—like the back of my hand.

I’m a naturally friendly and talkative person, and I love sharing local history, legends, and hidden gems with our guests.Whether we’re navigating a scenic coastline or anchoring in a quiet bay, I aim to make every trip feel safe, smooth, and full of memorable moments.
Outside of sailing, I’m passionate about sports—especially cycling and football—and I bring that same energy and enthusiasm to life on board.

If you’re looking for a well-organized charter with a captain who’s approachable, knowledgeable, and genuinely enjoys connecting with people, I’d be happy to welcome you aboard.”

Top Tips For Exploring Agana

  • “If you are coming in high season make sure to talk with locals, either at the Moorings reception or with skipper to get you contacts to plan ahead. Croatia in high season is crazy and late arrivals without prior arrangements will get you into uncomfortable shoes. Having someone give you hints and lay out itinerary with which you agree will make huge difference and save you a lot of stress.”

Favorite Bar & Restaurant

  • “Favourite bar is Zečevo island beach bar, and favourite restaurant is hard to call (Kotin, Veli Dolac have amazing swimming locations where their buoys are at if starting from Agana. If going one way to Dubrovnik or doing Dubrovnik zone on its own than Stermasi, great view, amazing food, Mrčara with beautiful swimming zone and cool story about the location, Taurus on Šipan, probably the best food I had on all of our islands”

Favorite Hidden Gem To Visit

  • “There are few but if I had to choose some specific than it would be anchorage at Sušac island, quite remote and few boat go there since it is little out of general routes and require good weather for the anchorage. The guy running the lighthouse is only inhabitant there and offers slowly grilled lamb at his place…definitely unique experience.”

Favourite Part of Your Role

  • “Meeting new people and hearing all the different life stories. Making new friends along the way.”

The route planning was excellent showing us wonderful diversity with cruise segments of just the right length. Overnight stops were great and restaurant recommendations were Amazing. Could not recommend any stronger than I do. Wonderful trip.

Ana Begić

Chef

Chef Ana always dreamed of working on a yacht, and after studying maritime technologies, she made that dream a reality. She loves sailing, meeting new people, and combining her Dalmatian heritage with her passion for food. Ana enjoys bringing the Croatian experience to life through delicious dishes, especially the homemade, hearty meals passed down from her Nona. As part of The Moorings crew, she loves knowing she’s helping guests have the best vacation, offering a unique perspective on Croatia’s towns and bays. Sharing Mediterranean cuisine is Ana’s joy, and she ensures every meal is one to remember.

“Hello! I’m Ana! I was born and raised in the beautiful coastal city of Split, where I also completed my studies at the Faculty of Maritime Studies. While I initially considered a more traditional career path, I quickly realized that I thrive in dynamic, hands-on environments—especially those that let me combine my love for the sea, travel, and hospitality.

I began my journey in nautical tourism with Sunsail, working as a flotilla hostess for three years. It was an incredible experience that taught me the importance of seamless organization and genuine guest care. From there, I joined The Moorings, spending two seasons as a stewardess aboard a 58-foot catamaran before discovering my true passion: cooking.

Now, as a chef on 45- and 50-foot catamarans, I love creating fresh, flavourful meals that reflect the best of Mediterranean cuisine. For me, there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing guests relax, indulge, and enjoy every moment on board. I’m here to make sure your time with us is not only delicious—but unforgettable.”

Top Tips For Exploring Agana

  • “Slow down and take the scenic route. Everyone’s excited to see the famous islands—and they’re beautiful, of course—but it would be a real shame to miss the smaller coastal towns along the way. Many of them are ancient, full of character, and incredibly pretty, with narrow stone streets, quiet harbors, and family-run konobas that serve unforgettable meals. Let the wind guide you, stop where it feels right, and don’t be afraid to explore the places that aren’t in every guidebook. That’s where the real magic of the Adriatic lives, and that is where we take you.”

Favorite Bar & Restaurant

  • “The base in Marina is a great place to start—friendly, efficient, and well set up for a smooth departure. But if you ask me where my favourite spot is, I’ll always say: Rabbit Island. That’s what I call Zečevo, a tiny island just off Hvar near Jelsa. It’s only accessible by boat, which makes it feel like a secret. There’s a beach club there that opens just for the summer season—laid-back, stylish, and with the kind of vibe that makes you want to stay all afternoon. Crystal-clear water, great music, and a cold drink in hand… it’s the kind of place that reminds you why the Adriatic is so special.”

Favorite Hidden Gem To Visit

  • “It probably must be Vis town. There’s a little bakery just a short walk from the town quay that does the kind of pastries that make you rethink breakfast entirely. It’s nothing fancy—just flaky, buttery perfection and strong coffee served with a smile. It’s where I go to reset before a busy charter or sneak in a quiet moment between provisioning runs. And if you’re up for a stroll, the coastal path nearby offers some stunning views and a few quiet spots where you can sit, breathe, and remember why you came to the sea in the first place”

Favourite Part of Your Role

  • “What I love most is the mix of movement, variety, and connection. I’ve never been one for a typical office job—I thrive in dynamic environments where every day brings something new. Being on the sea lets me combine my passion for travel with the joy of meeting people from all over the world. Each charter is different: new guests, new stories, new menus. I get to cook, host, and explore—all while doing what I love. It’s the kind of work that keeps you on your toes and fills your soul at the same time”
  • Note: *If unforeseen circumstances prevent this crew from hosting your charter, another competent crew will substitute.
